o Havan means aahavaan (invitation). It is a scientific process equivalent to tantra. In tantra, years of practice & sadhana is required. In havan, only bhaav and purity is required but effect is instant like in tantra.
o Matter gets converted to energy in havan (E=mc2 ). “Jad (lifeless)” gets converted to “chaitan (consciousness)”. When matter (your aahuti- oblation) gets converted to energy (via fire) and joins your Sankalp (determination) and your jaap (chanting), it changes the magnetism of entire earth.
o The more firm is your Sankalp, the more pure your bhaav (feelings), the purity you maintained during havan, the results will be very fast in havan.
o Havan cannot be done as per anyone’s whim & fancies (cannot be done whenever you feel like doing).
o Havan is aahavaan for God. Similarly to do havan, God gives you aahavaan. Then only you can do havan.
o Havan cannot be done by your iccha (desire).
o Havan cannot be done by ordinary human being or ordinary brahmin. Even a small mistake can cause disastrous results.
o Whenever you do havan, do it after thinking.
o Sit facing north. Sit in east facing west. Do not sit in north. In north, God sits or brahman sits.
o More pure havan, it will go nearer to God.
o Ahuti (oblation) ultimately will become bhasm (ash).
o Havan place should be clean. Where cleanliness is there, Lakshmi will come.
o Clothes such be clean. Avoid eating and drinking and passing urine or stools wearing these clothes. If you pass urine or stool, take a bath and wear new clothes before sitting for havan. Try and wear pooja clothes.
o Sopari (betel nut) & shriphal (coconut): They are complete fruits. They have 3 layers denoting astral, causal & physical bodies. Hence you always give shriphal or sopari in havan as final ahuti.

Offerings for havan (homa, holy fire):
• Badam (almond)
• Pista (pistachio)
• Gud (jaggery)
• Kesar (saffron)
• Ghee (Clarified butter) of cow’s milk
• Wheat grain
• Rice grain
• Boondi (chickpea flour)

Wood that can be used– Branches of neem tree, holy basil (tulsi), banyan (vad) tree. Neem is pure, sterilizes atmosphere & burns slowly. Do not take branches of peepal (Bodhi) tree. Dry the branches in sun.

Clean the place of havan with Pavitra (pure and holy) water. Waters of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, Narmada and in foreign lands other river waters can be taken. Offer entire nariyal (brown coconut) or supari (betel nut)– as last offering in the havan. Do not break the coconut or the betel nut. Keep the havan kund (pot) of big size. Do havan with this bhaav (emotion) that whichever form of god has been called for the havan, that god is partaking the offerings in fire form (agni swaroop). Do not keep desire for prasad (food offering made to god that is later shared among the devotees) while doing hawan. In pooja (rituals of worship) you can take prasad. In havan, it is only arpan (to offer). Those with pure thoughts should only sit in havan. Unsteady mind should not sit in havan.
