What is mantra?
Man = mind, tra = 3. When mind become one in God. The three parts are you, God and words of the mind. Any word taken remembering God with oneness is called mantra. Mantra repeatedly leads to making it siddha (perfect). Then that mantra has the desired effect. When done with a sankalp (determination), that sankalp is fulfilled provided the mantra is siddh.
The oldest mantra is “Aum or ॐ”. A – U- M. A (અ) is the starting of word/language. U (ઉ) means I or you and M (મ) means God. Thus the most perfect mantra is “Om” where with beginning of word, you are connected with God. If you wish to add name of God after that, you can add the same e.g.
- Om namah shivaya (ૐ નમઃ શિવાય)
- Om siddhambe namah (ૐ સિદ્ધઅંબે નમઃ)
- Om gurubhyo namah (ૐ ગુરુભ્યો નમઃ)
Mantra initiation is given by guru. Guru gives a siddha mantra for devotees to chant. When guru gives mantra, he gives it with a sankalp (determination) that devotee should move forward. Because this mantra is siddh (perfection attained) and with Sankalp (determination), it will work for the devotee.
