Bhasma (ash) comes from the words Bhasmasur (to burn and become ash). Bhasma contains no negativity or positivity. It contains nothing. Thus it is pure as it does not have any vaasna (desire). It is the purest thing on earth. When mixed with any Sankalp (oath), it leads to an increase in that Sankalp intensity 100 fold.
Bhasma when applied on certain body parts gives certain qualities:
1. Behind the ears– gives purity in vaani (voice).
2. From occiput to cervical spine – opens the top 2 chakras.
3. Over both temples of the head – channelizes the thoughts.
4. Over chest – controls emotions.
5. Over umbilicus and heart – purifies those 2 chakras.
