Lok means abode. It also means stages. There are no physical loks. They are all based on your mental state. Either with body or without body, you can remain in various loks. There are prime 7 loks and depict the 7 chakras.
• Patal lok: It is the lowest lok. It also depicts Muladhaar chakra. Here humans stay in lust and sexual feelings. There is negativity, jealousy, anger, and immense intensity. It is a coiled snake that can be vengeful and can bite. This is hell as a person is never satisfied. Happiness depends on your state of satisfaction.
• Naga Lok: Here the snakes stay. They are underground. It depicts the Svadhisthana chakra. Here your desires are cloaked (underground) but they are still there. And if you disturb them, they can push you to patal lok.
• Prithvi lok: This is the Manipura chakra in stomach region. Here desires are for money and good living. Humans suffer from good times and bad times, happiness and sadness. Here karmas lead us to repeated births and depending on our karmas we go up or down.
• Divya lok: This is the Anahata chakra. There is more positivity than negativity. It is the heart chakra. This is where you experience divinity for first time but it is emotion based and not permanent. It is easier to connect with God at this level.
• Dev lok: This is the Vishuddha chakra. It is near the thyroid gland. Here your actions are in tune with the lord’s commands. You enjoy joy and happiness, But you are still not above the cycle of life and death. If you get stuck at this level, you have to come back to Divya lok or Prithvi lok to wash out your karmas.
• Brahma Lok: This is the Ajna chakra. It is the state of harmony along with knowledge. There is joy and happiness. However there is still separation from infinite. Just as Brahma was created and is creator; with destruction, he will also die. Thus, Brahma lok is not permanent. However from this level, the individual will not come down to Dev lok or Divya lok. Here, the individual will keep progressing further.
• Vaikunth: This is the Sahasrara chakra. When the thousand petalled lotus blooms, there is complete immersion with the lord. There is no separation. There is oneness. There is nowhere else to go. From vaikunth when the third eye opens, then Shiv lok comes where with complete immersion, you also do jagat kalyan (world welfare).
