Each Sapt Rishi has been designed specific work to maintain the world. Sapt Rishi are present till current day in their form. They were created at time of creation. They did not have birth. They do not have any karmas to wipe out. They had complete knowledge right from beginning. The great bear constellation has seven stars and depicts the Sapt Rishi. The Sapt Rishi (Seven Sages) are:

1. Vasishta
2. Agastya
3. Bhrigu
4. Gautam
5. Jamdagni
6. Atri
7. Kashyap


Kashyap: He is the symbol of creation. He cleaned up Kashmir, was father of various devas, humans, living organisms. He is thus known as Kashyap. Thus, he is the creator of life and cleaner of spaces. He symbolises Muladhara chakra. He wrote obstetrics, gynaecology & pediatric Samhita (codes).

Atri: He channelises energy between Muladhara chakra and Manipur chakra. Thus, he channelises energy from tamasic to rajasic. He thus guides the energy force in the right direction. Atri means direction. Atri taught the world about compass, electromagnetism and he is the father for travellers. He guides lost souls to the right direction. He wrote the book on atlas and was the first authoritarian on world maps. He depicts Swadisthana chakra. He teaches channelising of energy.

Jamdagni: He maintains food for all living beings. He symbolises ‘Annapurna’ and feeds everyone. He is supposed to have Kamdhenu cow that gives unlimited food. He symbolises Manipura Chakra. He is thus known as Jamdagni for satisfying the agni (fire) of the Manipur chakra.

Gautam: Gautam Rishi stands for Uttam (excellence). Uttam is something that attracts the heart. He is the cleanser of love. He cleansed the love feeling in his wife Ahalya, whose feelings had turned to stone and then were cleared by Lord Ram. By his blessing, his wife once again could feel true love. He taught bhakti, devotion and he is the author of bhakti yoga. He stands for the heart chakra (Anahata chakra). He teaches Anahata (infinite) love.

Bhrigu: He has knowledge of the properties of various parts of plants (roots, stem, leaves, flowers), knowledge of various parts of animals and what can be used to heal & treat living beings. Though he is not father of Ayurveda, his knowledge is essential to utilise in healthy living. His son is Chyavana Rishi who made Chyawanprash (the elixir of life). Thus, he is known as Bhrigu - one who has knowledge of various bhri (elements). He denotes Vishuddhi chakra - the thyroid gland. Thyroid gland maintains various functions & health of body.

Agastya: Agastya has lot of siddhis. He can fly in sky, levitate etc. He taught Kungfu and various siddhis to Chinese. Yangtse river in China is named after him. He finally settled in south India to prevent Vindhyachal mountain from rising further. Agastya & Kartikeya look after Dravidians in south India. Agastya Muni denotes siddhis . Siddhis come at Aagya chakra (third eye chakra).

Vasishta: Vasishta means prime. He is considered as prime among all Sapt Rishi. He has complete knowledge. He was kulguru of Lord Ram. He had Kamdhenu cow who could fulfil any wish. Vasishta Muni denotes Sahasrara chakra (crown chakra). When complete knowledge comes, then Sahasrara chakra opens. Vasishta has knowledge of past, present & future. He is father of astronomy and planets and can predict the past & future.
