Siddh means perfection. ‘I’ means I. Whatever has been perfected by ‘I’ is called siddhi. If a student perfecta his maths, he has siddhi of maths. Thus, siddhi can be in materialistic world, spiritual world, astral world, causal world. Till you have a body, be it with ego ‘I’ or egoless ‘i’- it can have a siddhi. When there is no body, no form, then there exists no siddhi, there exists nothing. In Vedant, there are 84 siddhas described. They are known as perfect beings. These siddhas are perfect in every aspect. There are many more who have achieved perfection but then they have surrendered it to God. The 84 siddhas continue to exist as they are constantly into jagat kalyan (world welfare) and thus they need their siddhis. The prime siddhis are:
AapatKaal (આપાતકાલ) Gyaan (જ્ઞાન): Knowledge of past, present & future. With this siddhi, one can change situations as and when needed. The siddhas help individual change their karmas and prevent lot of calamities.
Mrig Samhita: Knowledge of deception. With knowledge of deception, siddhas can create their own magic world e.g., Guru Matsyendranath created a different world. Guru Gorakhnath was fooled and thought that his guru was with a prostitute whereas it was not true. This Mrig Samhita is used to open eyes from maya (illusion), to make others understand what is maya.
Atman Shuddhi Aavaran (આત્મા શુદ્ધિ આવરણ): Siddhas have knowledge of where someone is stuck, make the person unstuck and continue to cleanse layers of soul. When you pray to God to help you rise above your vices (vikaar), he does that by atman shuddhi aavaran. Thus, it is said that progress on spiritual path cannot occur without a guru. Because self-cleansing is not possible. It is only through grace of a siddha that atman shuddhi aavaran is possible.
Moksha Trupti Rupam (મોક્ષ તૃપ્તિ રૂપમ): When an individual desires to reach the finish line (moksha), then the satisfaction of reaching there and moulding yourself to reach there is only possible again though the knowledge of a siddha. Even with bhakti or Gyan, the ultimate (moksha) cannot be achieved without the grace of a siddha.
Anuroop vyavahaar dharanam (અનુરૂપ વ્યવહાર ધરણાં): As per circumstances, the siddhas take a body, assume a form, make body small or large, become visible or invisible, hear everything, see everything, throw immense power, subdue things. These powers are never misused but are used only for betterment of society.
Uttam Sarvocham Sadachit (ઉત્તમ સર્વોચમ સદાચીત): A behaviour that is appropriate, apt, best and for the betterment of anyone. That is not possible without reaching a state of perfection. No one can do behaviour, which is uttam (ultimate), sarvocham (supreme), sadachit (virtuous) except a siddha.
Gyaan Paraya Rachitam (જ્ઞાન પરાયા રચિતં): Knowledge of everything even what is not yours but of others and then acting as per that knowledge for betterment is called rachitam.
Sarva Gyani Sarva Vidhaata (સર્વ જ્ઞાની સર્વ વિધાતા): Being full of knowledge yet knowing everywhere it is only God. Thus, inspite of doing immense miraculous feats, still knowing it is only God who does and exists.
Sarva Pratham Artham Beej Mantram (સર્વ પ્રથમ અર્થં બીજ મંત્રમ): He who can create any mantra that can be the seed of knowledge of self. A siddha is the only one who can give such a mantra.
Parmeshwar Sarvottam Sharnam (પરમેશ્વર સર્વોત્તમ શરણમ): A siddha can give birth, life, death but all this only after surrendering to God and acting as per God’s wishes.
